The work of CG Jung has inspired generations of psychologists, scientists and artists. His insights speak to universal truths which offer us an inspiring framework through which we can make sense of the lived experience of humanity. They are as relevant now as they were when Jung first proposed them. 150 years after Jung’s birth, we are still finding new ways in which his ideas can be applied to support the development of people, organisations, and societies.
This one-day symposium will provide the space and time to discuss how Jungian psychology can move beyond psychotherapy to support the work of modern coaches and consultants.
Over the course of the day we will explore Jungian thinking in small group workshops, coming back to plenary to reflect on key themes and implications.
Ann Askenberger
Harnessing shadow work to foster inner psychological safety and team trust
Ann is the author of "Your Shadow is Your Strength: Embracing Your Whole Self in Every Role in Life," a powerful exploration of the transformative impact of acknowledging and integrating every part of ourselves.
With a career dedicated to leadership and personal growth, Ann has vast experience working with organizations and individuals to inspire development and authenticity.
Originally from Sweden, she brings a fresh and unique perspective to leadership and self-discovery.
Laurence Barrett
Exploring the significance of image and identity in coaching
Laurence is the author of “A Jungian Approach to Coaching: The Theory and Practice of Turning Leaders into People”, an introduction to the principles and structures of Jung’s psychology and its possible application to a modern coaching and consulting practice.
Laurence has spent several decades working internationally in leadership and organisational development, and lectures on a number of coaching and consulting programmes.
Laurence will introduce a Jungian perspective on identity and consider its significance in developmental work. We will explore the significance of symbols as the voice of the unconscious and the foundation of identity, and examine how coaches can help their clients develop a more conscious sense of self.
Brant Elwood and Aodhan Moran
Exploring relational dynamics through mythic archetypes
Brant and Aodhan are the authors of “Gods, Heroes and Groups: Relational Dynamics Through Mythic Archetypes”, a book synthesising post-Jungian ideas about myth with modern theories of group psychology.
Brant has held leadership positions within several therapeutic treatment organizations, including a non-profit that utilised myth and archetypal theory to conduct rites of passage work with young men in the southeast US. Aodhán has attended multiple group relations-style conferences in member and staff roles, including The Tavistock Institute of Human Relations’ Leicester Conference, and is currently pursuing a career in clinical psychology.
Brant and Aodhan will explore how we can decode group dynamics using depth psychology and mythic archetypes to better understand the currents and hidden dynamics within group life.
Summaries and further reading materials from all the workshops and discussions will be available online following the event.
We hope that this will be the first of a number of events and that we can build a community of practice, inspired by Jungian psychology.
