Being a Body and Having a Mind in an AI Enabled Workplace

WEBINAR by KATIE MULDOON Thursday 22nd October • 12:30 to 13:00 UK Time Recognising the effects of AI and why manageable struggle is important

AI can generate confident answers in seconds. Adoption reflects this: Microsoft and LinkedIn 2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report showed the great adoption of agentic AI. 75% of knowledge workers now use AI at work, up from roughly a fifth of the workforce just a couple of years ago, and the payoff is real, 90% of users say it saves them time and 85% say it helps them focus on their most important work.

Freeing people up for "higher-value work”; the judgement calls, the ambiguous decisions, the moments that require weighing incomplete or conflicting information rather than simply retrieving it. That framing raises an uncomfortable question: if AI is doing more of the retrieving, verifying, and drafting, where does the cognitive capacity for that higher-value judgement actually come from?

Some of the best leadership judgement doesn't come from information at all. It comes from what you notice in your body, the energy in a room, or a hunch you can't yet fully explain,  and that kind of instinct isn't automatically freed up by having more time. It has to be built, through repeated exposure to problems that are hard enough to keep the mind actively working rather than passively checking a result.

In this 30-minute webinar, Katie Muldoon draws on her career across the RAF, technology and innovation, the boardroom and psychoanalytic practice to explore your own use of AI, and that of your team members, to notice when it may be affecting the way you work. She'll look at why manageable struggle builds the ability to act under pressure, how expertise depends on staying actively engaged rather than simply verifying an answer, and why some of the best thinking still happens between people, not inside a tool.

This event is for leaders, coaches and consultants who want to stay embodied and attuned as AI changes how work gets done, and for anyone curious about what leadership requires that a screen never will.

Katie is a senior leadership coach, author and consultant with over 20 years of leadership experience, specialising in organisational culture and innovation. She holds a Masters in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, a Masters of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge in International Relations, and completed her MBA with Warwick Business School, her dissertation focusing on leadership in the age of AI.

Her psychoanalytic training at the British Jungian Analytic Association informs her psychodynamic coaching approach. Katie is a certified Senior Practitioner with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC).
