WEBINAR

An introduction to Jung's concept of the shadow and its significance for human development.

'Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in an individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is' CG Jung

Very few of Jung's ideas have captured the popular imagination quite like the shadow. it is charged with mythic energy and associations, and the suggestion that something dangerous waits in the darkness beyond the light of consciousness.

The shadow reminds us of who we are by emphasising who we are not. It defines the limits of our own personality and of the communities we are part of. It shapes not only our own behaviour, reinforcing our conscious identity or surfacing in unguarded moments, but influences how we see others and colours our relationships.

Confronting the shadow marks the first step of any developmental journey, as this step forces us to face our own fears and self-imposed limitations and in doing so perhaps discover new potential.

Jungian psychology offers a lens which places the human once again at the heart of human systems. It provides a framework to understand the complex web of feeling tone associations and images that shape and define our behaviour and our very sense of self.

In this webinar we will explore Jung's concept of the shadow as a key part of his model of the psyche. We will examine its origins and affect, and its significance in any developmental process.

The webinar will also include references for further reading and additional materials, including a chapter from the book 'A Jungian Approach to Coaching: The Theory and Practice of Turning Leaders into People' by Laurence Barrett.

It is intended for coaches and consultants who would like to explore a deeper and more soulful way to understand and support their clients.

This webinar will be delivered by Laurence Barrett who has coached senior leaders and led change programmes for international organisations for over 30 years. Laurence trained as a coach and a supervisor at the Tavistock Institute. He holds an MSc in Developmental and Jungian Psychology from the British Psychotherapy Foundation and an MBA from Lancaster University, along with a Foundation Certificate in Group Analysis from the Institute of Group Analysis . He also holds Certificates in Ecopsychology and Ecotherapy from the Pacifica Graduate Institute.
